Desserted Village Achill Island Acaill

These cottages on the southside of Mount Slievemore have long been abandoned, and fell into ruins a long time ago. People used to live on the mountainside of Mount Slievemore for thousands of years, probably until the middle of the 19th century. It is not known, why the village was abandonded, but it is assumed the owning of the land by the so called Achill Mission, led to people's evictions.

Directions

The deserted village on Achill island is located approximately 2,5 kilometres north of Keel. Coming from Doogort, you have to turn right 2 kilometres before reaching Keel in the direction of Sean Reilig. 500 meters further, a cemetary will be reached, from where a path leads to the ghost village.
