Ilnacullin - Garnish Island Garinis

Garnish Island (also known as Illnacullin), laying offshore in the bay of Glengarrif, is known for its beautiful gardens.
The island was once owned by the Bryce family, who engaged Harold Peto, a renowned landscape architect, to create the wonderful gardens. A huge diversity of plants, as well as a number of remarkable, different buildings, give the island its unique character, nothing alike can be found in the whole country. In 1953, Garnish island was given to the state.

Directions

Garnish Island can be reached by boats departing at Glengariff (the town is located on the Wild Atlantic Way). On the way to the island, it is very likely to see seals, sunbathing on the numerous sandbars.
