Kilbarron Castle Cill Bharráin
The ruins of Kilbaron Castle are best reached over the Creevy Coastal Walk. The remains of the castle wall tower proudly over the currents of the atlantic.
In 1580, Mícheál Ó Cléirigh was born here, who played a huge role in the development of the “annals of the four masters”, a documentation of Irish history, dating from 4500 BC until the early 17th century.
Approximately 4 kilometres north-west of Ballyshannon, you have to turn off the Wild Atlantic Way, following a road leading to Creevy Pier. After 1,5 kilometres, shortly before the end of the road, there is a small parking area, the start point of the Creevy Walk.
