Three Castle Head Dún Locha
Three Castle Head on the Mizen Peninsula, is a true insider's tip. The ruins of Dunlough Castle, which was built in 1207 and originally consisted of three huge towers, can still be visited. The remnants of the castle tower on a plateau, surrounded by a romantic and wild scenery of rugged steep cliffs, the merciless ocean and a beautiful lake.
Three Castle Head is located 12 kilometres west of Goleen. Coming from Barley Cove, turn off the Wild Atlantic Way at the Mizen Head junction and follow the road straight to the small bay at the end of the road. You can now follow a trail by foot, passing the farm property and going through pastures and fields. You will have to pass a few walls on the way up the hill, to reach the castle. The walk takes about 25 minutes.
