This abbey was built in 1240 by Franciscan monks, on the shore of Courtmacsherry Bay. The site has previously been inhabited by monks since the 6th century and the abbey was regurlarly extended until it was raided and abandonded, during the reformation in the early 17th century.
Timoleague Abbey is located on the edge of the small town of Timoleague, on the Wild Atlantic Way.
