Dún Chathail, Cionn tSáile
County Cork

To protect the important port of Kinsale, an extensive military complex was built in a strategically excellent location between 1678 and 1681. It was the largest construction project in Ireland during the 17th century. By crossing the bridge of the outer wall, you are surprised by the expansiveness of the complex. Laying on a slight slope, the protective walls extend down to the sea surrounded by a dense network of buildings, most of which can be visited.
